Blog 8 - Setting Up Your Venture

Throughout this semester I have learned a great deal about myself as an entrepreneur. Thinking outside of the box and seeing products and services from different perspectives has helped a lot in becoming more creative. Before coming into this class I felt like everything you could possibly think of in terms of products had already been thought of and created. I have learned that, while it may seem that way, the products and services that are out in the market can always be improved and new things are constantly appearing. However, now when I see something or hear of a product or service that is not quite working like it should, I think of ways that it can be improved. I have also learned that being an entrepreneur is more than just having a good idea. It is about being aware and knowledgeable to the whole business process, from marketing to research. Experience is important to all entrepreneurs and I know that if I ever start my own business that success is not going to come at the first try.

I think the most noticeable part that I have learned about myself as an entrepreneur is looking at things through a different lens, as I mentioned above. I am constantly thinking of how problems can be fixed, how things can be made easier, and how existing products and services can be improved.

  1. My venture is always just beginning. I wake up and it is a new adventure. I know that sounds cheesy, but people do not know how much their actions of everyday(hour) REALLY affects their lives. I could lay in bed all day for four years and it is most likely that I will keep doing this b/c I am use to it and do not think I can do anything more. Now, if I think of something new and original I can challege myself my whole life I will never stop thinking of the endless things I could do and see with my life and others. It is all about your mind set. Before I met my friend I never thought I could co-own our business, buy pricey equipment, learn about how to deal with money, go on adventures, and go to college. I never thought I would be going on this path this far in my life and just turn 23. If you can change your mind set and then show others how much you can do in life now that you have decided to do something with it maybe others will see the possibilities too. I want to finish UNCG with a business degree, learn from my business, grow into another bigger business, and get more knowledge about real estate so I can make my investor money their. But it is all about my mind set and how far I let myself go.

  2. The college experience as a whole has completely changed the way I think about commerce. I am so much more in tune with the way things work. I would not trade it for anything. Setting up a new venture can be difficult, but with proper guidance it can be made easier.

Planning is a large part of starting a venture. You must plan! It is very important. Therer are a myriad of arganizations that can offer help and "hold your hand" during the process.
